5 Best Bets
Best North American plane route There's no better way to get between the East and West coast of North America than on Cathay Pacific's service from JFK to Vancouver. While we're not the biggest fans of the herringbone seating arrangement in business class, it still beats anything on offer from Air Canada or

Sun And Skates
I am standing in Mexico City's main square, the Zocalo. The temperature is a balmy 25 degrees and there's not a hint of snow in the air. Nonetheless, next to me is a skating rink, filled with hapless but very happy Mexicans doing their best to stay erect. In the centre of the rink, the red, white and green

Cruise news you can use of the week
Winning a free cruise is nice, but most contest prizes are pretty similar. Celebrity Cruise Lines is offering a trip with a difference: They're running a contest that will let 10 couples win a trip on the new Eclipse when she leaves Papenburg, Germany, in 2010. What makes this trip unique is the ship travel

Seeing sights swiftly
Zip-lining is becoming a big tourist pleaser in the rainforests of Central and South America, especially Costa Rica and Honduras, as well as the islands of the West Indies, Antigua, Jamaica and St. Martin among them.

Panama: Ants, monkeys and, at last, the elusive jaguar
I'm in Panama, on a bus to a rainforest tour. I'm told there may be jaguars in this jungle. And I am keeping an eye out for one.

A chic week
My wildest adventure in the Caribbean recently was in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, where I visited seven gorgeous islands in seven days travelling by local boats and planes. SVG comprises 32 islands in the southern Caribbean -- the last stronghold of the Carib Nation, and thus the last to be settled by E

Dinged by the rings?
As any Olympic athlete can tell you, the road to the games is paved with sacrifice, commitment, hard work and dedication. Making the most of everything you've got. In my case, "everything I've got" amounts to $1,000 and a week off work in mid-February. And while I don't stand a chance of making the podium,

On top of the world
So this was the view that greeted explorer Samuel Hearne in 1771, when he became the first European to reach the Arctic coast of North America: a vision of small islands rolling away to the horizon. Hearne had travelled months to get here, trekking northwest across "the Barren Lands" with an ever-changing p

Whiff you go
Travel should broaden the mind but more often dilates the nostrils. You don't have to possess the proboscis of Cyrano de Bergerac to catch a whiff of the Guinness factory in Dublin, nor do you require a GPS to let you know that you have reached Faridabad, a sprawling industrial city north of New Delhi.

Where sea and sky both sparkle with shiny stars
It's a moonless night, but as I trail my hand through the water of Puerto Rico's bioluminescent Las Croabas bay, my fingers glow with a gazillion tiny points of light. "Look!" cries my companion, as a fish swims past, its spine and dorsal fin fluorescent against the black velvet water.

A ray of sheer terror
Ken and I are sipping a rum punch on a delectable strip of icing-sugar sand on Jamesby Island. This little hump of coral and wind-torn pines is one of the links in the sparkling archipelago of Tobago Cays, little dots in the Southeastern Caribbean. We're waiting for a turtle to lumber by.
