Nolan Deck met a sinking feeling on his way to work this morning when he heard the report that the German Concordia Club had burnt down. With less than a month to their Oct. 9th wedding his fiancée broke down in tears over the phone when she realized that the news was not a bad joke he was playing, now like so many others finding a new location for their wedding will be all they can think about today.
The German Concordia club situated on the Southern edge of Saskatoon on the corner of Cartwright St. and highway 219 is known quite well to most Saskatonians as a popular wedding destination, home of the German Folk fest Pavilion, a great location for conventions, parties and more including a licensed restaurant open to the public.
Personally I have humorous memories of going out to the Concordia Club for a German dancing lesson with a buddy of mine many years ago in one of our more desperate attempts to meet girls, we failed at both...
With the marquee still flashing "TRY OUR GREAT FOOD!", "OKTOBERFEST OCT 24th" and others with a couple of chimneys and a pile of rubble behind, our thoughts are with those whose weddings were up and coming at the Concordia Club.
