Fireworks Festival 2009 Saturday Night Review

Saskatoon Crowds at River Landing during 2009 Fireworks FestivalLast night's fireworks show was a step up from Friday's show and an energizing blast to end a relaxing evening at Rotary Park and River Landing.

The early evening entertainment was visually dynamic and festive on the River Landing side, with all sorts of cultural dancing. The wooden dance stage was thundering and echoing with stomps and taps, while the banks and sidewalks were bursting with the vibrant dress of the next performers awaiting their turn.

Smoke on the Water following the fireworksMeanwhile, at Rotary Park, folks were kicking back and relaxing with a drink and some good barbequing while enjoying some local rock-and-roll and country music. Some were basking in the hot sun we enjoyed, while some remained in the shade of the beer garden tent. I enjoyed All of The Above who put on a fun and witty show, followed by the delicious country voice of Amy Nelson

Opposite winds may have been more favorable for the Archangel Fireworks crew than they were on Friday night for Ruggieri Fireworks. However, the show seemed generally louder, bigger, brighter, and more dramatic. The explosions were set to a harder hitting techno beat and the fireworks came closer and travelled further, passing right by the audiences. The crowd seemed more involved than Friday night with screams and cheering, especially in response to the thunderously hard hitting grand finale. There was no doubting that my ribcage was certainly resonating a little harder with last night's finale than Friday night's. Overall, I found last night's show more exciting. I look forward to the show next year.
