Saskatoon Fireworks Festival 2009 Friday Night

Saskatoon Fireworks Festival 2009 Rotary Park

As our ‘wheat king' farmers continued gathering our prairie crops last night with the naturally bright aid of a full harvest moon, we city folk swarmed to the river's banks to see an extravagant show of  artificial light by fireworks set to music. I had heard a lot of hype leading up to the firework show so I expected a great turnout, but I was still taken aback at the depth and density of the crowd.  It was a real marvel to see the draw that fire in motion has for residents of all ages and apparent walks of life, and as fascinating to me as the show itself.

Fireworks Festival 2009 Saturday Night Review

Saskatoon Crowds at River Landing during 2009 Fireworks FestivalLast night's fireworks show was a step up from Friday's show and an energizing blast to end a relaxing evening at Rotary Park and River Landing.

The early evening entertainment was visually dynamic and festive on the River Landing side, with all sorts of cultural dancing. The wooden dance stage was thundering and echoing with stomps and taps, while the banks and sidewalks were bursting with the vibrant dress of the next performers awaiting their turn.

Saskatoon Dragon Boat Festival 2009

canstockphoto0448272.jpgAt the Saskatoon Dragon Boat Festival 2009 all generations of our city gathered Friday and Saturday and sunk their paddles into the river, to throw a splash of color, taste, fun, humor, and community at some otherwise daunting and dark health challenges, with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan as the charity of choice. In a galvanized effort to raise resources and awareness Rotary Park was flourishing with inviting bright colors, great tastes, laughter, and heart-warming fellowship. Once again we were proud and fortunate to take part in a festival that was not only tons of fun but also a profound community-building event.

Have you been to the Fringe yet?

_8067607-3Hey, have you been to the Fringe Festival yet?! What are you up to for the next five days? Are you into straitjackets, chains, knife throwing, gratuitous fire, shoddy street-dancing, small town sex-tape fiascos, talking chickens, misfit Speedo sporting unicyclists, raunchy raucous feminists, mixed walking nuts, or tawdry transvestite bullfighters? Or, are you a little more traditional, and just out for the run-of-the-mill cephalopod birthing discussion? Do you revel in chic artistry over kitschy depravity? Are you tempted to sacrifice your children to the verbal hedonism of a brazen gypsy street performer or would you rather maintain their innocence with puppetry, innocuous story-telling and chaste music? Or are you just looking to catch a festering case of superfluous adjectivitis like I did? Regardless of your tastes or lack thereof you're bound to get your kicks and be entertained. If you are as fortunate as me you might even walk away with more than just amusement.

Canada Day Fireworks

It was one of our few beautiful days so far this summer, perfect for hanging out in the park with the family to celebrate our great nation. With a variety of displays, food vendors, bands, dj's and fireworks there was plenty to do and see while enjoying one of Saskatoon's many great parks and summer events.
