CBC The National - H1N1 Media CoveragePosted by: kdmi in MyBlog on Nov 06, 2009 Tagged in: head shot

This is a short blog entry today, last night the National on CBC did a piece on the H1N1 media coverage that I very much enjoyed.
Think what you will about vaccinations and all the other aspects, we can all agree to disagree for the time being, that's not what I'm addressing today.
This story was nice to see, it's a news piece in which the media is openly asking did we do wrong with how we handled coverage of this issue, while I would prefer that be a question they ask themselves during the process before going for the ratings - publicly asking themselves after the fact is a least a move in the right direction.
There's a clip somewhere in the middle in which Wendy interviews their reporter who covered the death of the 13 year old boy in Ontario - this is enlightening but easy to miss stuff, in fact I caught it today while re-watching this story online.
The point I found most interesting is that the reported mentions that at the time of covering the story it was unknown how much interest there was in the vaccine - and further states that they were unsure how they were going to sell the public on it... hmmm..... watch the interview for yourself and form your own questions around this, I know it confirmed my suspicions.
There are other very interesting aspects to this story, watch it a couple of times if you have the opportunity.
If for nothing else I would like to thank the CBC for giving me an H1N1 hype-free evening news at least one night this month....
