Have you ever faced the situation of going to the wrong coffee shop, ordering and then finding out you were at the wrong place? well that was my day today, in fact it pretty much illustrates how fried my mind was getting and how necessary the break was.
It really was no question there was no way I was walking into the Broadway Roastery with a fresh Starbucks White Chocolate Mocha in my hands, nor did I need the additional caffeine of ordering a coffee or espresso so a cup of herbal loose leaf tea was in order.
It really worked out quite well, I got my break, the tea was relaxing and stabilizing while I now enjoy my White Mocha (albeit cooled) as I dig back into my work.
The break from the office afforded me an opportunity to experience how beautiful the weather is right now despite the cloud and snow it really feels warm and calm. I also had a chance to connect with Saskatoon's Broadway coffee scene again, a scene I very much like on days like today.
I remember when I first heard that Starbucks was opening on Broadway, and the fears of it damaging the local companies thinking about it in the same negative light that I viewed Walmart due to it's predatory nature. In hindsight while it seems that "The Living Room" may have been a direct casualty of the Bucks invasion it appears that the Roastery has held it's own, it was nice to see both business doing a brisk business mid-afternoon on a Thursday.
I'm also quite glad Starbucks has invaded, while they are overpriced and not the best cup of coffee around their specialty coffees are very consistently quite good (with the exception of the Eighth St. location in front of Staples which can be brutal).
If you enjoy a really good cup of coffee or specialty coffee and convenience isn't the concern, you can find a superior cup downtown at Caffe Sola, or in Sutherland at Intermission Coffee House.
